Although Yellowstone and its first spinoff, 1923, both wrapped up per Sheridan’s original plans, Mayor Of Kingstown was not so lucky. The showrunner said he had an ambitious seven-season plan for the crime show, but its unexpected cancellation means that these stories will now need to be crammed into the final eight episodes of season 5.
Since Landman season 2’s biggest failure was stretching out its sparse story, it might not be a bad thing for Mayor of Kingstown to wrap up quickly. However, most shows that are forced to conclude their stories without sufficient screen time end up offering viewers a profoundly dissatisfying ending. Luckily, the show’s arrival on Netflix offers a glimmer of hope.
