Dexter Morgan’s resurrection has now also revived a franchise awards streak that was briefly put on ice before Dexter: Resurrection season 1.
Following Dexter: Resurrection’s record-breaking streaming success, resounding critical acclaim, and a speedy renewal from Paramount with its freshman season, the sequel series is continuing its triumphs on the awards front. On January 27, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films announced that Dexter: Resurrection received an outstanding six Saturn Awards nominations, the most for any TV show this year.

The Dexter franchise has now received Saturn Awards nominations in categories for Best Television Series and Best Actor in a Television Series (Michael C. Hall) for all but one of its TV shows – notably the only one without Hall leading the cast on-screen as Dexter. After Dexter and Dexter: New Blood scored nods in these categories, Showtime’s 2024 prequel series Dexter: Original Sin was completely shut out of the Saturn Awards.
Following Original Sin’s cancellation by Paramount, Dexter: Resurrection has now revived the franchise’s Saturn Awards nomination tradition with a record-breaking showing. Hall himself has now received nine nods for Best Actor in a Television Series for his Dexter Morgan role, winning in 2007.
Dexter Morgan was portrayed by Patrick Gibson in Dexter: Original Sin, with Michael C. Hall providing voiceover narration.
In addition to Hall’s many nominations and 2007 win, Dexter took home several Saturn Awards throughout its original run, including Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series in 2008, Best Guest Starring Role in a Television Series for Jimmy Smits and Best Supporting Television Actress for Jennifer Carpenter in 2009, Best Supporting Television Actress for Julie Benz in 2010, and Best Guest Starring Role in a Television Series for Yvonne Strahovski in 2013.
While Dexter: New Blood was nominated for four Saturn Awards in 2022, including Best Action-Thriller Television Series, Best Actor in a Network or Cable Television Series, Best Supporting Actress in a Network or Cable Television Series, and Best Performance by a Younger Actor in a Network or Cable Television Series, the limited revival ultimately didn’t take home any of the awards.
The six categories that the Paramount+/Showtime thriller is up for this year give the series more momentum as Dexter: Resurrection season 2 prepares to begin filming in April. While Paramount has yet to give the upcoming outing an official release date, showrunner Clyde Phillips recently revealed that Dexter: Resurrection season 2 will premiere in October 2026.
The 2026 Saturn Awards will be presented live on Sunday, March 8, just a month before Dexter: Resurrection season 2 officially kicks off production.
