Here are Wednesday’s key updates on Israel, the West Bank and Gaza:
■ Hundreds of Israelis attended the funeral of Ran Gvili, the last Israeli hostage whose body was returned from Gaza on Monday, 843 days after he was killed on October 7, 2023.
■ The Israeli military received reports of an attempted stabbing at the Tunnels checkpoint south of Jerusalem. No injuries were reported, and the suspect was shot at the scene. The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the man as 28-year-old Qusay Maher Ismail Halaika
■ France supports the inclusion of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the European list of terrorist organisations, a source close to the Elysee presidential palace said on Wednesday.
■ In testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it was “an open question” who would replace Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei should he be removed from power.
■ Ali Shamkhani, adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said that any military action from the U.S. will see Iran targeting the U.S. and Israel and those who support it
■ Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi of the Likud party referred to Yorai Lahav-Hertzanu of Yesh Atid as a “beast,” who denounced the attack as a reference to his sexuality, and an insult to the LGBT community.
■ Supreme Court President Isaac Amit warned on Wednesday that the judicial system is under an attack far beyond legitimate criticism.
