Arijit Singh penned a note on Instagram that read- “Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” read his note.”

Amid his retirement, there’s an old interview of the singer that has gone viral where he spoke about the reality of playback singing. Singh was quoted saying, “You first have to decide whether you wish to do playback singing or sing your own song. If you want to do playback, you have convince 100 people in the industry that they will like your voice. Someone wants a voice like Kishore Kumar. You have to match up to every expression of the hero you are singing for”
