SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. – The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) on Saturday announced that officials are investigating a confirmed case of measles.
The patient is in isolation to stop the spread of this highly contagious disease.
The Public Health Branch of the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency is currently reaching out to anyone who may have been in contact with the patient during their 8-day contagious period.
HHSA staff are working with several local spots to notify employees and the public who visited the following locations at the specified day and time:
Osaka Sushi, 1340 Churn Creek Rd., on January 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.Cross Point Church, during a basketball game on January 24 from 1:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.Costco, on January 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.Churn Creek Health Care Clinic on January 28 from 1:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Public Health officials are asking individuals who were at these locations to check if they have received two doses of the measles vaccine. Those without both doses could be at risk of contracting measles.
Vaccine records can be checked at myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov.
The HHSA says the listed locations mentioned above are currently safe to visit. They have no concerns about exposures at any of these locations at this time.
People usually receive the measles vaccine as part of the MMR vaccine. Two doses are needed for strong protection, with less than a 1% chance of contracting measles after exposure for those fully vaccinated.
Children typically receive the first dose at 12 months or older and a second dose before kindergarten.
Adults vaccinated before the 1990s may have only received one dose, and Public Health advises them to check with their health care provider about getting a second shot. People born before 1957 are likely to already have immunity.
