Sam Raimi recently shut down any hopes that fans had about him doing another Spider-Man movie, but he may have changed his mind.

Raimi, who directed the original Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, revealed in an interview earlier this week with AP Entertainment that he would actually love to make another film about the Wall-Crawler. He said that he would be more than happy to reunite with Maguire for a fourth film.

The filmmaker further elaborated on his prior comments about not doing another Spider-Man movie. He explained that right now is not the time for him to step in and make another installment to his original trilogy. Raimi said that he loved the direction the MCU is going in with Tom Holland’s iteration of the superhero and his involvement with the Avengers. As a result, he didn’t want to interfere with the franchise because they’re doing a great job, and he wouldn’t want to insert himself in it.

Raimi also eased up on his firm no. He added that while it won’t happen anytime soon, it’s not impossible, and he would never downright refuse to do it if the timing was right. He also mentioned how much he enjoyed working with the original cast and would love to do it again.

Right now, Marvel is very successful on their own tangent with their own Spider-Man, where he is involved with the Avengers and the other superheroes. So I don’t think it makes sense right now to break up that great successful run that they’re having just to allow me to make another movie. But I’d love to. And the day might come.

After his original trilogy, Maguire surprised fans by joining the cast of the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. He’s also not the only one from the original Spider-Man films to join the MCU. Raimi also directed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. There are also whispers that he might come back once again for a potential third Doctor Strange movie (this is just a rumor and has not been confirmed by anyone).
