Priyanka Chopra is set to make her comeback to Indian cinema with the much-anticipated Telugu film Varanasi, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. In an interview with CinemaBlend, she revealed that she made one specific request before agreeing to join the project — and it resulted in an energetic dance sequence that Mahesh Babu himself ended up performing.

Discussing her decision to return to Indian films after a long hiatus, Priyanka said she asked Rajamouli “will you make me dance?” — a plea she’d held onto because she hadn’t danced in an Indian film in years. “I have one request, will you make me dance? Please, because I haven’t danced for so long… Whoa, I should not have asked, because we are dancing. Oh my gosh, there’s a lot,” she recalled. “And poor Mahesh was like, ‘It’s because of you. Because of you, I have to do it too.’”
Mahesh Babu confirmed that the resulting sequence has become a highlight of their collaboration so far, describing it as “sensational.” He added that one song, already shot, keeps playing in their minds and that Priyanka often sings it. “It’s sensational. And, I think one song we’ve already shot for it, and it just keeps playing in our minds. And [Priyanka] keeps singing it all the time. And, that song was because she wanted to dance and… And, he made her dance.”
The film Varanasi, which follows SS Rajamouli’s previous blockbuster RRR, continues to generate excitement across fan communities. The combination of Rajamouli’s directorial vision, Mahesh Babu’s presence, and Priyanka Chopra’s return to Indian cinema has created anticipation for both the narrative and its musical components.
The film is slated to release on April 7, 2027.
