Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris crashed badly during big air training on Wednesday (4 February) in Livigno.

The three-time Olympic medallist was stretchered off the course on the eve of the qualifying round and the Opening Ceremony at the Winter Olympics Milano Cortina 2026

The severity of his injury was not immediately known.

McMorris, 32, came into these Winter Games in a bid to upgrade his three consecutive slopestyle bronze medals.

The Canadian superstar is the last remaining snowboarder who participated in the slopestyle competition when it was introduced at Sochi 2014

While the slopestyle has brought him unprecedented success at the Olympics, he had pinned his hopes on finally winning a medal in the big air.

In the buildups to both Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018, McMorris had to fight his way back from injury to reach the podium.
