Helen Mirren is advising young people to embrace their natural features.
In a new Q&A with Elle, the British actress, 80, was asked about the time someone suggested she get a nose job in her 20s. “That was a different era,” the Oscar winner said of the advice she received years ago from someone who recommended she alter her appearance to get more work as an actress.

“The world today is very different from how it was when I was in my early 20s,” she said. “I wasn’t pressured — just some film director told me I’d never have a career unless I had a nose job. It was one rather silly man.” When asked about younger people getting facelifts, the Thursday Murder Club star admitted she doesn’t know how to feel. “I think it would be a terrible mistake to get plastic surgery when you’re in your 20s,” she said. “Your face changes.”

But, she conceded, “If women or men are seriously diminished, defeated or depressed when they look in the mirror … and they have the financial ability and the mental ability or whatever to change it, fine.” But first she suggests getting “really good lighting in your bathroom so that whenever you look in the mirror, you are lit beautifully and look great. It’s a lot cheaper than getting a facelift!”
