A new report teases where a particular live-action remake is headed next, and reveals that it will tell a shorter story than in its previous season.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender is a live-action remake of the Nickelodeon animated series of the same name, which aired from 2005 to 2007. As the original is beloved and stands out as one of the best animated fantasy TV shows ever, the live-action remake was not universally embraced. However, it was a streaming hit with strong reviews, thus Netflix moved forward with remaking the rest of the series.

Knight Edge Media reports that Netflix has confirmed to them that Avatar: The Last Airbender’s second season will have seven episodes instead of eight, like its predecessor, and has revealed the titles of those episodes to be as follows:

Episode 1: “Somewhere Safe” (Written by: Christine Boylan)

Episode 2: “A Fight, Once Begun” (Written by: Phinneas Kiyomura)

Episode 3: “City of Walls and Secrets” (Written by: Helen Shang)

Episode 4: “The Water Falls, the Stones Emerge” (Written by: Teresa Huang)

Episode 5: “Ten Thousand Things” (Written by: Gabriel Llanas)

Episode 6: “The Parable of the Two Dragons” (Written by: Keely MacDonald)

Episode 7: “Something Broken” (Written by: Christine Boylan & Gabriel Llanas)

Those familiar with the original show may now believe that Netflix is reshuffling the timeline, as “City of Wall and Secrets” is the title of the episode in the animated iteration where the “Gaang” reaches Ba Sing Se. But while Ba Sing Se is the final arc of episode 2 in the old series, they get there in episode 3 in the remake, seemingly too early for things to play out the same.

This is also because episode 5’s title, “Ten Thousand Things,” apparently alludes to the main group’s adventure in “The Library,” which they originally visited before Ba Sing Se. The remake has taken some creative liberties before when it comes to the timeline, particularly with introducing certain characters earlier than they were in the animated show.

The new season will bring back cast members Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Elizabeth Yu, and Maria Zhang, and will introduce Miya Cech’s Toph, who becomes Aang’s earthbending teacher. Season 1 closely followed its source material, showing Aang, Katara, and Sokka traveling to the Northern Water Tribe to find a waterbending teacher for Aang. Now, he will move on to the next element.

Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 will release on Netflix in 2026.
