Hot on the heels of the Tattersalls February Sale in Newmarket, Goffs holds its February Sale & February Point-to-Point Sale on the other side of the Irish Sea.

Tattersalls at Park Paddocks last week. Goffs at Kildare Paddocks the week after.

At Goffs, over a two-day run, around 400 lots are set to go under the hammer, the company promising a ‘quality sale of Flat and National Hunt horses of all ages’.

A point-to-point sale, for which a separate catalogue will be released, will be held immediately after the February Sale has come to a conclusion.

Trade begins, however, with a full day of weanlings. On Thursday, before the point-to-pointers enter the ring, attention turns to two-year-olds, stores, horses in training and breeding stock.

Lot 244, a half-sister to a Hong Kong Champions Mile hero, is one of the weanlings on sale, along with Lot 50, a half-sister to the US Grade 2 winner Platinum Warrior, and Lot 213, a Shaquille half-brother to the dual Group 3 winner and Group 2-placed New Providence.

A number of leading jumps sires are represented in day one’s offerings, including Jukebox Jury, No Risk At All, Doctor Dino and Walk In The Park, who sires Lot 136, a yearling colt out of the multiple Grade 3 winner and Champion Hurdle-placed Shewearsitwell.

Lot 154, out of a continental European Grade 1-winning jumper, is also included the opening session. The Kapgarde filly is also a half-sister to the Italian Grade 2-winning jumper Ramuntcho.

Goffs may to some extent be chasing the Tattersalls February Sale figures – turnover of 3,650,000gns including private sales, at an average of 17,838gns – though it has fewer lots on sale to do so.

Day two at Kildare Paddocks brings with it the chance to purchase mares in foal to the likes of Henry Longfellow, who has his first foals dropping this year. They are, namely, Lot 309, the winning La Sensazione, whose dam won at Group 3 level in Italy, and the dual winner Singsong Lady, who’ll be offered as Lot 366.

Session two also features the Aga Khan Studs-consigned Shamalza (Lot 364), a four-year-old mare who won last year and is a half-sister to the Railway Stakes victor and multiple Group 1-placed Shartash.

It also includes Lot 398, the five-year-old mare Empress Of Hope, believed in foal to Shaquille and a full-sister to the Brownstown Stakes heroine Valeria Messalina.

Other lots of interest include:

Lot 96, a Nirvana Du Berlais yearling colt out of a half-sister to the multiple Grade 1-winning jumper Petit Mouchoir.

Lot 104, a Siyouni yearling colt whose dam is a full-sister to the Prix du Muguet winner and sire Plumatic.

Lot 261, an Ace Impact yearling filly out of a German Listed winner.

Trade begins at 10am on Wednesday and Thursday.
