With the conclusion of Super Bowl LX, Marvel has broken one of its longstanding records when it comes to the Avengers film franchise. Every year since 2012 in which an Avengers film hit theaters, the studio has released a trailer to promote it during the game, but this year, they opted not to share another teaser for Avengers: Doomsday.
The hotly-anticipated sequel releases in December, and it brings back a large roster of Marvel stars, from Robert Downey Jr. to Chris Evans to James Marsden, among many others. Doomsday will close out the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga about seven-and-a-half years after the last installment in the Avengers series.
Though no Avengers films have been released since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has consistently marketed its films during the massively–watched game. Last year, Thunderbolts* received a television trailer during Super Bowl LIX, and the year prior to that, Deadpool & Wolverine scored the spot.
While Doomsday did not debut a trailer at the Super Bowl, at which the Seattle Seahawks emerged victorious, it has released several trailers so far, highlighting characters such as Steve Rogers, Thor, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Black Panther. No teasers have been revealed for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day either, though its release date is nearer than that of Doomsday.
Notably, DC Studios, the MCU’s primary rival in the superhero media space, also sat out the Super Bowl. Instead, they launched a trailer for Supergirl during Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl. DC also used this tactic in promoting Superman last year.
While this long-standing tradition has created the expectation for Marvel releases to show a trailer during the game, the studio likely sat it out for Doomsday due to their atypical marketing campaign already being in full swing. As for Brand New Day, it is uncertain when the first teaser will come out, but with the film’s theatrical debut in just over five months, it will likely come soon.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters on July 31, 2026, while Avengers: Doomsday releases on December 18, 2026.
