IDF troops carrying out a targeted raid on a structure in southern Lebanon apprehended a senior operative from the Jamaa Islamiya -a Sunni Islamist group linked to the Muslim Brotherhood – the military said on Monday.

The suspect was transferred to Israeli territory for questioning, and weapons were located in the same building, according to the IDF.

The army said the operation followed intelligence indications gathered in recent weeks.

Lebanese media reported that the kidnapped officer was Atwi Atwi, a leader in the Jamaa Islamiya terrorist organization.

Later on Monday, the IDF struck a Hezbollah terrorist operating in the Yanuh-Jat area in southern Lebanon.

On Sunday, the Israel Police and the IDF foiled an attempt to smuggle 12 pistols across Israel’s eastern border.

According to the police, the air control system identified during the night a drone that crossed from the east into the northern territory of  Israel in an attempt to smuggle weapons.

After the identification, forces from the Israel Police in the Northern District searched and located the drone and the 12 pistols that it carried.
