Prime Video’s Fallout has proven adept at balancing sprawling wasteland politics with intimate, emotionally grounded storytelling. Fallout season 1 showcased the intimacy through Lucy MacLean and Maximus’ connection, and this link became an emotional core of the show. However, they spent the entirety of season 2 apart.

The sophomore season expanded the world effectively, with Fallout successfully recreating New Vegas and deepening the show’s lore. Lucy and Maximus’ individual arcs were also compelling, though their eventual reunion in Fallout season 2’s finale highlighted just how much we’d missed the two together.

Fallout season 3 should fix this issue. Season 2’s ending strongly suggests that Lucy and Maximus’ reunion will stick, so hopefully, we’ll see them traveling onward together. Perhaps to Colorado?

Lucy & Maximus Will Be Back Together In Fallout Season 3

In Fallout’s second season, Lucy’s search for answers about Vault-Tec’s legacy, while Maximus grows disillusioned with the Brotherhood of Steel. When they finally reunited, it felt earned, emotionally charged, and long overdue.

Season 2 deliberately kept them apart to explore their individual growth. However, once that necessity was fulfilled, the show brought them back together. Immediately after Lucy dismantles her father’s mind-control mainframe and watches him wipe his own mind, she steps into the deserted Vegas strip and sees Maximus. It’s a poignant moment that converges their parallel story arcs.

Fallout season 3 will not need that separation. With both characters now drastically aware of the broader stakes of the Wasteland, it is logical for them to remain together for most of the following season.

What To Expect With Lucy & Maximus’ Story In Fallout Season 3

With Lucy and Maximus now reunited, Fallout season 3 is poised to dive into the battle for human survival more than ever before. The final moments show them on the brink of war as they watch Caesar’s Legion march on New Vegas. At the same time, the New California Republic (NCR) readies themselves inside the city.

Lucy’s own issues with her father still reverberate and could remain unresolved. Hank’s bigger ties to the Enclave remain a mystery she’s likely to pursue. Then there’s Hank himself. Is he just going to be left, inanimate, in New Vegas? Meanwhile, Maximus’ evolution from lone wanderer to a genuine wasteland hero with a moral clarity gives him fresh purpose.

Adding another layer, the Fallout finale’s post-credits tease of Liberty Prime Alpha. This massive combat robot from Fallout lore suggests next season won’t be shy about huge stakes and big set pieces.

Lucy & Maximus’ Fallout Reunion Is Still Missing Something

Despite the emotional payoff of Lucy and Maximus’ reunion, one major narrative thread feels unresolved going into season 3 — the Ghoul’s journey. Now equipped with his wife’s postcard pointing toward Colorado, there’s genuine hope his family might still be alive. At the end of season 2, The Ghoul moseys towards Colorado on foot, Mad Max style.

Walton Goggins’ fan-favorite character has less connection to Maximus. However, his reluctant alliance with Lucy has softened into something more meaningful. With Cooper Howard heading to Colorado, the Ghoul’s story might initially pull them all in different directions. If the show really wants to deliver its strongest season yet, it needs to bring these three back into the same narrative.

Lucy functions as the moral bridge between Maximus and the Ghoul. She humanizes Maximus’ rigid loyalty and manages the Ghoul’s cynicism. Fallout season 3 needs to capitalize on that chemistry.

By keeping Lucy and Maximus together from the very start of season 3, Fallout will fix one of season 2’s biggest flaws. With new dangers— from Caesar’s Legion to Liberty Prime Alpha — and The Ghouls’ search for family, there must be a way Fallout season 3 can finally bring this fractured trio together.
