This strategic addition to the executive leadership team signals a new era for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as it continues to push the boundaries of electric mobility, digital innovation and GenAI.

Dan is a familiar face within the paddock, having been a pivotal figure in the championship’s technological evolution since 2019. During his tenure as a consultant, he was instrumental in developing the robust technical infrastructure that supports the series’ unique street-racing format, Formula E’s broadcast presence and its sustainability initiatives.

He brings more than 15 years’ experience across sport, media, broadcast and live events as a technology and commercial leader and has operated as a fractional CTO, delivering complex, high-performance technology programmes.

In this new role, Dan will oversee Formula E’s technology strategy and culture of innovation, including supporting the delivery of the GEN4 car for Season 13, which represents a significant step-change in performance and efficiency, alongside the championship’s integration with technology partners such as ABB, Google Cloud, Infosys & TATA. He will spearhead the adoption of emerging technologies to drive world-class performance and innovation across the series.

He will focus on enhancing the “fan-first” digital experience by implementing cutting-edge, low-latency data streaming and immersive viewing technologies that bring the thrill of the track closer to global audiences and has also been tasked with ensuring that the technology roadmap is rooted in environmental responsibility, aligning technical innovations with Formula E’s industry-leading net-zero carbon commitment.

Jeff Dodds, CEO, Formula E, said: “Technology sits at the heart of everything Formula E does – from how we race, to how we innovate and how we accelerate sustainable human progress. Dan’s appointment as our first Chief Technology Officer reflects our commitment to pushing boundaries and evolving at pace.

“As we look ahead to the GEN4 era and continue to harness cutting-edge partnerships such as Google Cloud, Dan’s leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of the championship and delivering world-class performance on and off the track.”

Dan Cherowbrier, CTO, Formula E, said:  “Formula E is unlike any other championship in world sport. It combines innovation, purpose and performance at the highest level and sets a benchmark for how modern sport should operate. Having worked closely with Formula E since 2019, I’ve seen first-hand the ambition and potential of the series, the racing teams and our partners.

“I’m proud to join the Formula E team at what is a pivotal moment for us as we enter the GEN4 era. I’m excited to lead the next phase of technological evolution – continuing to redefine what’s possible, not only in electric racing, but across motorsport and beyond.”
