The 25 metre, four-lane facility is being built as part of an expansion at Fakenham Sports and Fitness Centre on Trap Lane.

The pool will mark the first time in more than a decade that swimming facilities are available in the town.

It will replace the pavilion that was previously home to Little Angels Pre-School, which has since moved to Fakenham Rugby Club.

In an update on North Norfolk District Council’s Facebook page, concrete works began earlier this month, which will shape the site for the development.

Everyone Active, operators of the centre, said the pool was “a long-awaited return of swimming amenity to the town”.

The project will also involve a revamp of the fitness facilities to include exercise studios and a 50-station gym.

It is said to cost around £11m, with most of the funding coming from government grants, such as the Levelling Up Fund.

Work on the site is scheduled to be completed by December 2026.
