While the smartphone industry focused on faster upgrades and flashy features, Fairphone is going against the trend and finding success. While big brands face higher component costs and supply shortages, the Dutch company reported an impressive 83.7% year-on-year growth in Q4 2025.

This is happening even though the electronics market is dealing with a memory shortage caused by the AI boom. Many manufacturers have raised prices or quietly reduced hardware specs. As a result, some phones now cost more but offer less. Fairphone is taking a different approach by offering devices that last longer, are easy to repair, and come with long-term support.

Fairphone, you get a phone built with modular parts, easy-to-find spare components, and a promise that you won’t have to upgrade every two years. This doesn’t mean you have to give up performance for ethics. Fairphone believes that sustainability and reliable everyday use can go together, and so far, customers seem to agree.

That strategy is working. The company is on track to reach $500 million in total sales and sell over one million devices since it started. CFO Oscar Visser says that supply chain pressures across the industry are making people rethink the old model in which frequent replacement is the norm.

As frequent upgrades get more expensive and less practical, buyers are choosing products that feel like long-term investments instead of throwaway gadgets.

Fairphone’s launch in the U.S. market in 2025 was also important, giving the brand recognition on a global level.

Fairphone is also getting ready for its next stage. The company recently added two experienced leaders: Katya Vasylieva, who was at Adyen, is now Head of Finance, and Anca Prins-Barbulescu is the new Director of the Strategic Delivery Office.

Both new leaders say they joined Fairphone because of its long-term vision. The management team believes these hires will help the company grow while staying true to its focus on sustainability.
