An aid truck inspected at the Kerem Shalom crossing several months ago was found to contain cigarettes, phones and batteries, but the incident was not classified as a security threat but rather as an economic offense, ynet has learned. Despite the smuggled goods being valued at 8.1 million shekels, the case was not handled as a security matter but was instead transferred to an investigation by the Tax Authority and Customs Division. In the coming weeks, the Tax Authority is expected to file an indictment against the truck driver who attempted to smuggle the goods into the Gaza Strip, on charges of customs violations and smuggling, without a charge of aiding the enemy in wartime.
