Small Prophets is a new British comedy series with six episodes, each around 30 minutes long, centered on a unique premise. Created and written by Detectorists’ Mackenzie Crook, it follows Michael Sleep, played by Pearce Quigley, who’s turned to the supernatural following the disappearance of his girlfriend, Clea, seven years earlier.
The supernatural element comes in the form of homunculi – small, artificial, human-like beings or “prophets” – which Michael creates using an ancient recipe, hoping they can give him answers about whether he will ever see Clea again.
What follows is the fallout from this strange experiment turning real. With the help of a colleague, Michael tries to navigate nosy neighbors and growing suspicion, all while searching for the truth about Clea. This journey forms the core of the series’ story and gives enough headroom for both heartwarming drama and laugh-out-loud moments.
