One of the biggest breakout hits on Netflix this year is too good to end after just one season. Currently the #1 trending show in the world, this 6-part spy thriller series deserves a second season after its enormous streaming success.

Released on February 5, 2026, this series steadily made its way to Netflix’s #1 global ranking, landing as high as #3 on U.S. charts. Although the series received moderately positive feedback from audiences, its streaming dominance speaks volumes.

Netflix’s Unfamiliar Is Too Good To End After One Season

Unfamiliar has become the latest binge-worthy Netflix original series to go viral across the planet, following in the footsteps of massively popular series like His & Hers and The Beast in Me. That said, a second season has yet to be confirmed by Netflix, even though the way the story ends, it’s still totally possible.

Unfamiliar has sort of been an answer to Prime Video’s highly anticipated series The Night Manager, featuring major A-list actors like Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie. The Night Manager has been a strong performer for Prime Video since it returned in January after a near-10 year gap between seasons. While The Night Manager has stronger critical acclaim, Unfamiliar appears to be winning the viewership battle.

Using The Night Manager as a point of reference, Netflix should reasonably order a second season of Unfamiliar, as Prime Video has already announced The Night Manager season 3. Netflix has had a strong history with spy thriller franchises, like The Night Agent, which will drop its third season in just a few days, but also has abandoned some of its more trending hits in the genre, like The Recruit.

Netflix may be waiting to see how long Unfamiliar’s streaming dominance will last throughout February and over the long mid-month holiday weekend before making any decisions about its future. That said, its consistent popularity has been quite obvious to the point where it would be somewhat shocking if Netflix did not expand the series into a franchise.

Andreas Bareiss, a producer on Unfamiliar, recently revealed in an interview with The Spot that he has plans for Unfamiliar season 2. “We have lots of ideas for various seasons…the audience will decide in the end, but I’m confident that they will decide the right way.”

If the viewership is truly the main factor here, Unfamiliar season 2 has to be reaching a point where it will be essentially demanding itself. This weekend could be the make-or-break moment for the future of Netflix’s biggest surprise breakout hit of 2026 so far.
