Hamas disarmament could begin as early as March 2026, according to two sources in US President Donald Trump’s Gaza Board of Peace who spoke to KAN News.
The disarmament process will begin once the new technocratic government takes over from Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Saturday night KAN report added.
The Peace Council is expected to meet in late February in Washington, DC, with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar representing Israel at the summit.Â
The Board of Peace initiative was originally designed with the intent of bringing the war in Gaza to a close, but Trump later said that it would resolve conflicts globally.
Preparations have already begun in the Gaza Strip for the transition of power, per the KAN report, which added that Israel has begun building IDF bases in Israel-controlled territories in the Strip. The IDF has also begun arming anti-Hamas militias, such as Abu Shabab, according to KAN, citing foreign reports.Â
According to a Thursday Facebook post from Duhine, the anti-Hamas militia has begun dismantling the tunnels, which they consider to be the most impactful weapon Hamas possesses. “Afterwards,” he added, “we’ll destroy weapon manufacturing, rockets, and finally move onto guns.”
Earlier this week, KAN also confirmed that Abu Shabab, also known as the Popular Forces, would be involved in the security protocols surrounding the recently-reopened Rafah Crossing.
