Haley Lu Richardson is just as in the dark as audiences as to whether her hit Slow Horses replacement will return.
Co-created by The Spy Who Dumped Me duo Susanna Fogel and David Iserson, Ponies is led by Richardson and Game of Thrones vet Emilia Clarke as widows of CIA agents who, in the wake of their husbands’ deaths during a mission, enlist to become agents themselves. As they begin working undercover in 1970s Moscow, they begin investigating an apparent mole within the agency, as well as attempt to find out the truth behind their husbands’ deaths.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley to discuss her sci-fi action comedy Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, Haley Lu Richardson was asked about any updates on Ponies season 2’s chances. The star confessed she has “absolutely no idea” whether the Peacock series will be back for more, humorously saying that “no one tells me anything” while also expressing her hopes for a renewal as “I just love Emilia so much” and finds the show to be “so fun” to make:
Haley Lu Richardson: I love the response and that people are loving it and relating to Bea and Twila and their friendship. I’ve never loved a character more than I love Twila. She’s been very therapeutic for me to play. I feel like it would be good for my mental health and my growth as an individual to continue playing her.
Also starring Adrian Lester, Atrjom Gilz and Vic Michaelis, Ponies became a critical sensation right out of the gate, netting a near-perfect 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as its mix of comedy and espionage was warmly compared to the likes of Apple TV’s Slow Horses. It’s also been performing well on Peacock in the month since its premiere, having generally stayed in the platform’s Top 10 TV show ranking.

Peacock’s Ponies season 1
Richardson is likely not the only one hoping for Ponies season 2 to move forward given the show left many unanswered questions from its explosive season 1 finale. Both Chris and Cheryl were revealed to be the Soviets’ moles inside the CIA, though their reasons for doing so, and the former’s survival, remain a mystery. More notably, Bea and Twila were last seen being held at gunpoint by KGB agents, seemingly setting them up to be in prison or worse come the next season.
While Richardson may not have any proper insight into the show’s future, Fogel and Iserson did confirm closer to its premiere that they had plans for Ponies season 2, having pitched it as an ongoing series and teasing thoughts of even taking the show beyond its Russian setting. However, they also previously admitted to not knowing whether they’d be picked up for another season, despite selling the show with a vision for multiple seasons.
