One can hazard a guess as to why the prime minister assigned the foreign minister, Gideon Sa’ar, to represent Israel at the Board of Peace meeting this Thursday in Washington. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will enjoy watching his political rival-turned-servant squirm as he tries to avoid a photo with his counterparts from Qatar and Turkey. Netanyahu understands that if he were to go himself, a picture of him next to Hamas’ patrons would be devastating to his election campaign. He prefers that Sa’ar embarrass himself on the eve of the Likud primary.
