Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) protesters blocked the main road in and out of Jerusalem on Monday afternoon during a protest against being drafted into the IDF.

The protesters initially disrupted traffic both around the entrance to Jerusalem and on Highway 38. Police announced that they had successfully dispersed the protesters on 38.

This protest came after mass protests occured in Bnei Brak on Sunday, spurred after two female soldiers arrived for a home visit to a pre-draft candidate prior to enlistment.

At least twenty-six haredim were arrested during Sunday’s protest, though N12 reported that all were released to house arrest afterwards.

According to footage circulating on social media, the mob flipped over a car while chasing the soldiers, and continued to follow them as police escorted them further away and around a corner to safety.

“A bright red line has been crossed here. We will not lend a hand to harm our female soldiers,” Bennett’s post read. “We will restore governance to Israel.”
