Thor 5 is finally getting some major updates ahead of Chris Hemsworth’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year.
During an appearance on the Smartless Podcast, Hemsworth revealed that after Avengers: Doomsday, he and Marvel Studios already have plans for Thor in the MCU. The Australian actor stated that he will continue playing the Marvel icon a “couple more times,” after his return on December 18, adding, “Yeah, it’s wild.”
The Crime 101 star continued, “I was talking to Kevin Feige about it, and he said it’s cool because the audience now expects dramatic turns with the character.” He elaborated that, “Whatever we do next—we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different].”
Outside the Thor 5 movie, the MCU veteran could also easily be referring to Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be going into production this summer. The sixth Avengers film will be the final installment for Phase 6 and serve as the finale to The Multiverse Saga.
One person who will not be back from Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder for the fifth installment is Taika Waititi as the director. In an interview with Insider in 2025, the filmmaker stated, “I wouldn’t know if that’s accurate. I know that I won’t be involved. I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for.”
While Thor: Love and Thunder had a mixed critical reception, Phase 4 grossed $760 million at the worldwide box office, with Hemsworth’s hero being one of the last remaining original Avengers. Thor 5 would likely arrive in Phase 7, especially as the MCU timeline is going through a reset through Avengers: Secret Wars.
During a press roundtable event that Deadline took part in back in July 2025, Kevin Feige stressed that he still sees Hemsworth as being in his prime to keep playing Thor. At the time, the Marvel Studios president didn’t share anything specific about Thor 5 with the actor.
Thor 5 currently doesn’t have a release date.
