Sky blue Curling Bowl on dining table

To celebrate the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, Swedish designer Gustaf Westman has reimagined curling stones as a playful, dual-function snack bowl.

Stones used in curling are traditionally made from Scottish granite and topped with a single plastic handle. Westman‘s interpretation sees the handle bisected for stemmed glasses to slide onto, and the base hollowed-out to fill with snack foods.

“Curling is one of those sports that represents the Olympics a lot for me!” Westman told Dezeen. “It’s something that I don’t think about for four years, and then suddenly I sit there biting my fingernails.”

“For watching that, I need something to put my snacks in,” he explained.

The bowl’s chunky form can be pushed across table tops for easy sharing of popcorn, crisps and other snacks – just as curling stones glide across the surface of curling sheets, on which the game is played.

While designed to securely hold wine glasses, the handle doesn’t have to be for drinks alone.

“The handle is made for wine glasses, but I guess you can put whatever you want in the glass,” said Westman.

“We put ketchup in the glass and fries in the bowl, for example!”

This year’s edition of the Winter Games, taking place in Milan, presented an opportunity for Westman to design something topical.

“I love being present and commenting on the time we are living in with my design,” said Westman. “And I also think humour has a big place in design – this is a great example of that for me!”

The bowl’s thick, rounded silhouette ties itself in with other tableware by Westman, including a bubblegum pink baguette holder and a sky blue platter designed specifically for IKEA meatballs.
