Jennifer Garner is currently promoting season 2 of her Apple TV+ series The Last Thing He Told Me, which will be released on February 20—and while out in New York City, she braved the elements in a Gen Z-coded look.

The actress stepped out in the city on February 17 wearing a navy jacket with gold button detailing, a blue scarf with white stripes, Freda Salvador Susana boots, and wide-legged jeans. Her brunette hair was worn down in waves, and her makeup was natural, including a pop of pink lip. Being the ever-relatable queen she is, Garner tucked her cell phone into the front pocket of her jacket.

Garner, after all, knows a little bit about Gen Z style—she has three kids that fall into that demographic, after all. The actress shares 20-year-old Violet, 16-year-old Fin, and 13-year-old Samuel with her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, whom she was married to from 2005 to 2018. In a recent interview with Marie Claire U.K., Garner didn’t hesitate when asked what she was most proud of in her work or in her life, immediately answering, “My children.”
“Parenting now has shifted,” Garner told the outlet. “It’s more about parenting with a button on my mouth.” She added, “You have to let them grow up and make their choices. You don’t get to control it.”

Of her trio, Garner said she is “so proud of how they walk through the world, and proud of them for trying hard,” adding, “they’re just so cool!”
Her fame, she said—especially navigating it with kids—is “the hardest thing,” Garner explained. “Not hard in the grand scheme of what is hard in the world, but tricky for me, and tricky for my family.” Of reading gossip about herself, she told the publication, “It doesn’t serve me to take in gossip about myself or anyone else, much less my kids, so I don’t do it.”

“So much about my life surprises me,” she continued. “That I’m still working, that I’m still alive, that my kids are healthy, that my work relationships—which are more like familial friendships—are still the same as they were 25 or 30 years ago, but richer and deeper and stronger. It’s all a gift. I just feel so grateful to my job for giving me these people.” Of Affleck, she added, “And then, yeah, that I’m able to co-parent at this point in time with peace and equanimity and a partnership that I didn’t know I would ever get back to. I think it’s important for women to know, when they think, ‘Oh, I’ll never see that, I’ll never have that feeling, I’ll never be friends with this person again,’ [that] time is the opportunity. Time is the opportunity to heal. Time is the opportunity to forgive, to move on, and to find a new way to be friends.”

Garner’s look on Tuesday follows other fashion-forward appearances this week, like visiting The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on February 16 wearing an asymmetric crepe dress by Bottega Veneta, or attending an event for The Last Thing He Told Me on February 12 alongside Reese Witherspoon in a Thom Browne maxidress with satin details.

As further proof of how normal Garner really is, she attended the Golden Globes for the first time in 13 years on January 11, wearing a black Cong Tri gown designed with 330,000 crystal beads that took 1,300 hours to make. Before putting on her dress and feeling “sparkly and pretty” at the event, per WWD, Garner told the outlet that earlier that morning, “My daughter went back to college this morning, so I got up at 5, took her to the airport.”

She added that she then cooked up “waffles for a bunch of teenagers” for a sleepover at her house, saying, “There’s no stress here. It’s all good.”

“I had no idea how much I was going to love having teenagers,” Garner told Harper’s Bazaar. “They’re just so smart and funny. They make me laugh, and they’re so sweet.”
