“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night said the latest polls are bad news for President Donald Trump.
And not just because of his plunging approval rating.
Colbert highlighted some of the other questions on an Economist/YouGov survey and found, for example, that 47% of respondents said the president is a racist.
“Not a great sign that it seems reasonable to include that question in the poll,” Colbert said. “It’s like if a wedding invitation said ‘chicken, fish, or do you think Donald Trump is a racist?’”
Trump is facing renewed accusations of racism after his Truth Social account posted a video depicting former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as a chimpanzee and a gorilla.
Trump later blamed “somebody else” on his staff for posting it. However, when asked about another message this week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said posts on Trump’s Truth Social page are “directly from President Trump.”
That wasn’t the only bad news Colbert found in the poll.
He pointed out that in addition to the 47% who view Trump as racist, “49% say he’s corrupt, 46% say he’s cruel, and 50% say he’s dangerous.”
Colbert jokingly added: “Unfortunately, the other 50% say ladies love a bad boy.”
The audience laughed… at first. But there were also some groans, which led Colbert to conduct an informal poll of his own.
“Do you, ladies? Do you love a bad boy?” he asked.
The reaction was immediate.
“No!” women in the audience shouted back.
