SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The new TrumpRx program officially launched on Feb. 5.
White House officials say that through the website, patients will be able to purchase discounted medicines at participating pharmacies.
An executive director at Alps Pharmacy says the website operates similarly to existing sites like GoodRx and offers coupons for multiple name-brand medications. And, the money saved by patients will mostly fall on the manufacturers of the prescription drugs.
“In most cases, they’re manufacturer programs, so that means the company that’s making the medication is offering a discount program to patients that are either cash paying, don’t have insurance, or maybe have those high deductible plans,” said Erica Mahn, executive director of community pharmacy services at Alps Pharmacy. “This is an alternative to avoid a high cost for the medication and still have somebody try their new product.”
Mahn added that many pharmacies have their own cash-pay programs that can offer even lower prices than what can be found using GoodRx or TrumpRx, and says it’s also important to consider that cash payments on medications will not count towards insurance deductibles.
