In a move that should have been done from the very start, Atome’s Singapore app has now enabled payments with partnered merchants in Malaysia.

This means the 1.5 million Atome Singapore users can shop at 15,000+ retail outlets and malls across Malaysia, and, in the same way, scan the cashier’s or counter’s Atome QR code to pay.

While the bill and the input screen appear in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR), the final outlay is also shown in Singapore Dollars (SGD). The Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) vendor claims its automatic conversion is at “a competitive rate”.

Steps to paying with Atome in Malaysia is just like how one does in Singapore, except that you will see two currencies instead of one.

Also, these cross-border transactions are compatible with Atome’s built-in loyalty programme, A+ Rewards Points. The app also supports full upfront payments, so you can treat it as an alternative payment option without spreading the bill over several months.

Prior to this update, the Singapore app was restricted to Singapore merchants.
