Hot on the heels of the return of The Night Manager and with Line of Duty series seven in production, the BBC has announced that another of its classic dramas is to return in the shape of Doctor Foster.
Almost ten years after the psychological thriller that stars Suranne Jones as the titular GP on a mission of revenge, she will be reunited her with the original cast member Bertie Carvel for a further five episodes. The new and final series will focus on Gemma Foster as she attempts to start a new life with a new love, before the past begins to re-emerge and threaten her happiness and professional reputation.
Are we seeing a new strategy from the BBC, farming its content from an era when its biggest dramas could command ten million viewers to create event TV that can compete in an increasingly competitive and expensive streaming market?
While reviving beloved shows can be fraught with the danger of tarnishing their legacy, a successful execution (like that of The Night Manager a decade after its earlier series) can be a huge crowd-pleaser. And so, while the nostalgia tap is firmly running, now seems like a good time to ask which classic British shows you would like to see revived from the BBC and beyond?

Is it time Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman got the band back together for a fifth season of Sherlock? Would you like to see another run of Life on Mars? Is there nothing that would make you happier than seeing a reimagined Only Fools and Horses on our screens, or is there a place in your schedule for Olivia Colman and David Tennant to reunite for a fourth series of Broadchurch?
These are just a few ideas, but we want to know what you think. Tell us which shows you’d love to see return (and why) in the comments below…
