Moms truly never give up. After the devasting loss of two eggs last month to ravens, Big Bear Valley’s beloved bald eagle couple, Jackie and Shadow, welcomed another egg Tuesday in their famous nest 145 feet atop a Jeffrey pine in the San Bernardino National Forest.
Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV), the conservation group that runs the beloved, 24/7 Big Bear Bald Eagle Nest Cam, confirmed the happy news on social media.
“Jackie laid her 1st egg of the 2nd clutch today at 14:29:38 cam time!” a Facebook post from FOBBV read. “At 14:35:13 the egg is visible. We will have video of the entire process to follow. Jackie did a great job and she is now resting.”

It’s been a tough season for Jackie and her longtime partner, Shadow.
Jackie laid two eggs this past January, and hopes were high among nature enthusiasts for hatchlings to follow.
However, tragedy struck the eagles’ nest on Jan. 31 when a pair of ravens landed on Jackie and Shadow’s home while they were away for a few hours. The ravens breached the eggs.
At the time of the devastating loss, FOBBV said there was still a chance that Jackie could lay a second clutch of eggs later in the season.

On Tuesday, that hope arrived, and perhaps at just the right moment.
FOBBV’s executive director Sandy Steers died earlier this month, and the nonprofit has been grieving her loss. Steers, a well-known wildlife activist, helped launch the eagle nest cam adored by viewers all over the world and was known as the organization’s go-to bald eagle expert.
After Steers’ death, FOBBV announced it had launched a $10 million fundraising effort to halt the Moon Camp housing and marina development that could be built less than one mile from the eagles’ nest. The nonprofit is working with the San Bernardino Mountain Land Trust to raise the money by July 31, 2026.
