The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has today announced that Poste Italiane has achieved the maximum 3-star rating from the FIA Road Safety Index covering its last-mile delivery operations across Italy.

Developed by the FIA, with the support of the FIA Foundation, the FIA Road Safety Index gives organisations worldwide a data-driven methodology to assess, manage, report, and improve their road safety footprint.

With over 170,000 crashes recorded in Italy in 2024, resulting in more than 3,000 deaths and 233,000 injuries, road safety remains a critical challenge. By promoting systematic action, the FIA Road Safety Index offers a clear framework to deliver meaningful improvements.

Operating through more than 1,300 post offices, with around 31,000 postal staff and a fleet of over 30,700 vehicles, Poste Italiane achieved a 3-star rating in recognition of its structured data-driven approach to managing road safety across one of Italy’s largest delivery networks.

By establishing clear injury-reduction targets, using Blackbox technology to monitor performance, regularly reporting to its board and providing comprehensive training programmes, Poste Italiane shared transparent and measurable insights on road safety across its organisation.

Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility and Sustainability, said: “By embedding clear targets and holding themselves accountable for their impact at the local and national level, Poste Italiane is demonstrating how organisations can improve road safety at scale.”

I would like to congratulate and thank everyone across the organisation for their efforts to not only protect their colleagues but all road users across Italy.”

Antonio De Grandis, Poste Italiane HSE Manager, said: “Achieving the FIA Road Safety Index three-star rating is a significant milestone for Poste Italiane, confirming the strength of our road safety management model and the maturity of the policies developed in recent years.”

Earning three stars demonstrates that we go beyond compliance with standards. We are able to anticipate risks, adopt innovative solutions, and promote responsible behaviour among our employees.”
