Chappell Roan rocked another sold-out show in N.Y.C.

On Sunday, Sept. 21, the pop star hit the stage at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, where thousands of fans gathered for her second of four Visions of Damsels and Other Dangerous Things pop-up tour dates at the venue.

Early on in the evening, Roan, 27, revealed to the crowd that she was suffering a migraine and apologized for not being able to do as much head-banging as she normally would during a set. Despite her ailment, the Grammys’ reigning Best New Artist delivered an electric performance.

Performing from a gothic fairy tale-inspired castle onstage, Roan (born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) made her way through fan favorites (“Casual,” “The Subway”) and hits (“Hot to Go”) before bringing out an iconic special guest. After telling concertgoers that she always covers Heart’s 1977 hit “Barracuda” in her shows, Roan welcomed the band’s guitarist Nancy Wilson for a surprise live collaboration.

With multiple show-stopping moments throughout the night, Roan reminded fans of her impressive range — and proved why she’s one of music’s most exciting new acts in years — as she made her way through a set list that highlighted her breakout 2024 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess; deep cuts (the 2020 single “Love Me Anyway”); and her follow-up hits, including “Good Luck, Babe!” and the country romp “The Giver.”

As the night began to wind down, Roan took a seat on the castle’s stairs to reminisce and address the crowd in an emotional speech.

“I like this show. It feels like… I was walking by the Bowery [Ballroom], not yesterday but the day before, and that was my first New York show, was Bowery Ballroom, and it’s so crazy,” Roan said. “It’s just like so full-circle…Maybe it’s because I was like laughing the whole time, but it feels very loose and fun and not serious.”

She added: “I’m like really hard on myself. I’m really, really hard on myself for like performing, like if my voice is like pitchy or if I’m not like giving it my all or something, I’m really hard on myself, and I think that I… I just like can’t do 100 percent today, and that’s okay, and I can still have fun. I think that’s why it feels like the old show because I didn’t know, well, I didn’t ever think I’d get this big, and also, I think that when you get bigger, it’s like people expect you… It’s like, ‘Oh, you’re at this level now, so you should be this way,’ you know? And I think I just like settled into that reality, but I don’t have to believe it, I guess. But thank you for sticking with me.”

To conclude the evening, Roan led the audience in a rapturous singalong of her beloved anthem “Pink Pony Club.” Mid-performance, though, took a brief break from singing, explaining to the crowd that one particularly enthusiastic fan had “flashed their t—, at me” before finishing the track to a thunderous standing ovation.

Roan will return to Forest Hills Stadium for two more shows on Sept. 23 and 24; she’ll wrap the U.S. leg of her Visions of Damsels and Other Dangerous Things pop-up tour in Pasadena, Calif., on Oct. 11.
