Not your grandfather’s colon cancer
Rectal cancer, a form of colon cancer that often occurs at the end of the intestinal tract, is skyrocketing. It now accounts for one-third of all colon cancers diagnosed, according to a new report from the American Cancer Society. For those under the age of 50, rectal cancer diagnoses have doubled in 24 years.
Scientists aren’t sure why this is happening, but experts suspect something in our environment is triggering this. More awareness among patients and doctors, along with more colonoscopies, is integral to reversing the trend.

“Housefishing” has hit real-estate listings. Like catfishing, when someone’s appearance doesn’t match their photos, housefishing is when a property doesn’t live up to its AI-generated listing photos.
Some real estate agents say it’s getting out of hand. AI can help homebuyers visualize a house’s potential, but it can also mislead them about what a space actually looks like. So if that dream listing looks too good to be true, you may not want to get your hopes up.
Readers had a lot of strong feelings about BI correspondent Emily Stewart’s RFK-approved, $15-a-day diet story. The comment section quickly filled with people fighting about diets, budgets, and the experiment. Emily’s inbox wasn’t spared, either.
That’s because debates about food aren’t just about food. Americans moralize eating as a signal of character and discipline — food fights are usually a proxy for arguments about identity, class, politics, and control.
Sports medicine doctor Jordan Metzl is a proponent of longevity, but thinks the craze has gone too far. “I feel like the next move is going to be protein toothpaste,” he said. Instead, he hopes people get back to the longevity basics: exercise, diet, socializing, and good sleep.
Metzl tries to lead by example. In the past, he’s completed dozens of marathons and 15 Ironman Triathlons. He shared his weekly workout routine to stay fit and feel his best.
His routine includes a run-commute.
