Elizabeth Hurley just proved that, sometimes, your own closet really is the best place to shop. On a recent trip to India, the actress brought out an almost-30-year-old dress from her own archives—and it looked good as new.
The black gown—which was custom made for Hurley by Donatella Versace—first debuted at the 1999 Met Gala, themed “Rock Style.” The satin number featured a plunging halter neckline, a thigh-high slit, and a floral embellishment on the bodice made of pink and orange jewels.

Originally, Hurley went for a more minimal styling, allowing the glimmering floral piece to stand on its own. For its latest outing, however, she chose to pair the dress with a silver cuff bracelet, glitzy chandelier earrings, and a $49,400 Serpenti pendant necklace from Bulgari in their signature snake motif. The five-figure serpent’s head is encrusted with 2.07 carats of diamonds and has sapphires for eyes.
Almost 30 years later, Hurley wore the dress again in India.

Save for a few silvery additions, Hurley looked almost indistinguishable from her 1999 Met Gala photos. She wore her hair in a similar fashion, styling her chestnut curls in relaxed waves. The only sign that time had passed was her part—she went with a modern center part, as opposed to her Y2K-era side bangs.
It may be almost 30 years later, but, honestly, you’d never know.
