Anthony Sinisuka Ginting battled through a three-game contest against Zhu Xuan Chen on the opening day of the 2026 Swiss Open Badminton Championships on Tuesday (10 March).
The fourth-seeded Indonesian dropped the opening game 16–21 and nearly let the second slip away after Zhu rallied back from 20–17 down. Ginting eventually closed it out 22–20 to level the match at 1-1.
The Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist made no such mistakes in the decider, cruising to a 21–10 win to seal victory after just under an hour of play at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel.
The win moves Ginting into the next qualification round, where he will take on Belgium’s Julien Carraggi, seeking a place in the men’s singles main draw of the BWF World Tour Super 300 event.
Earlier on Court 2, Paris 2024 bronze medallist Lee Zii Jia produced a confident performance to defeat Japan’s Koga Minoru in straight games. The Malaysian shuttler quickly imposed himself on the contest, winning 21–14, 21–10 in just 27 minutes of play.
Lee controlled the rallies from the outset, putting Koga under constant pressure and reeling off six consecutive points at one stage in the opening game.
He proved even more dominant in the closing stages, stringing together a seven-point run and converting both game points to wrap up the victory, and set up a qualifying round quarter-final against Ditlev Holm of Denmark.
