Masters said she focused on staying composed during the race as she worked her way through the field.

“I hate chasing. I would rather be chased,” she admitted. “But I do realise that I do well with chasing and reeling people in, one by one, staying smooth and relaxed.”

The United Sates athlete was greeted at the finish line by her boyfriend and fellow Paralympian Aaron Pike, a moment that brought back memories of her first Winter Paralympic medal.

“To have Aaron there to pick me up and hug me meant the world to me,” Masters said. “It reminded me of Sochi in 2014 when I won my first winter medal, and he hugged me exactly the same way.”
