China’s power demand growth slowed in August as scorching summer heat finally eased, according to data released by the National Energy Administration.

Electricity consumption rose 5% on a yearly basis, compared with 8.6% in July and 5.4% in June. Total use was about 1 trillion kilowatt-hours, slightly below the record set in July. That means China consumed more power in each of the last two months than Japan did in all of 2024.
