The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Ministry of Health (MOH) reports a bacterial meningitis outbreak in Mangembo health zone, Kongo Central province in late February.

The outbreak was initially detected among secondary school students, where several individuals experienced similar symptoms during a short time.

Cumulatively, 24 total cases, including three cases confirmed (Neisseria meningitidis W135 by PCR) and nine desaths for a case fatality of 37 percent.

Most cases were seen in people ages 13 to 24 years.
