The upcoming HBO Harry Potter series is finally moving into book territory. After several concerning set images showing too many similarities to the original series, the show is finally breaking new ground with an underrated scene from the books.

In a series of new leaked photos and videos on Reddit, the upcoming Harry Potter series will feature a more in-depth adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books. The leaks from the set in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, have just shared a series of scenes being shot in the early 1980s, and features a key scene from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone prologue, where Dedalus Diggle runs into Vernon Dursley, played by Daniel Rigby.

The scene shows a series of witches and wizards celebrating Lord Voldemort’s fall after murdering the Potters and being unable to kill Harry. One of them even includes Dedalus Diggle, who runs into Vernon Dursley on his lunch break. Before Dumbledore delivers baby Harry Potter on his doorstep, Vernon is as unmagical as it gets. He lives a quiet, routine-based life, and his days are all the same.

However, one of his days gets interrupted by a group of celebrating witches and wizards, who no longer bothers disguising themselves as Muggles. Dedalus even interacted with Vernon, as per the leaked pictures. In the prologue, Vernon was distraught by the colorful wave of cloaks and excited people, and ran into Dedalus, who shook his hand and said nothing could ruin his day, not even a Muggle.

The fan reaction to the scene was extremely positive, among the most encouraging feedback since the show has been announced. With backlash over Paapa Essiedu’s casting as Severus Snape, as well as the fact that the show was rebooted too closely to the films, the upcoming HBO series needed a win.

“I’m obsessed with the purple outfit, gives me hope that the rest of the Wizarding world are going to be as colourful,” read one of the most popular comments. “Holy crap, that purple costume is amazing!” another said. “That’s so ridiculously book-accurate I love it.”

The upcoming Harry Potter show will keep an era-appropriate look, with the characters wearing early ’90s outfits and haircuts. The new show will also introduce several characters missing from the films.

The Harry Potter series will introduce Professor Cuthbert Binns. The character will be played by Ghosts’ Richard Durden. The character is a part of the books, but doesn’t have a big impact on the overall story. However, it will feature a more important character missing from the films, Charlie Weasley, who makes his debut in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and appears again in Goblet of Fire.

The series has yet to cast Voldemort. There have been multiple reports, one claiming that Warner Bros. has already cast the Dark Lord, but is keeping the actor under wraps until Season 1 premieres in 2027. A recent rumor claims Warner Bros. is currently auditioning for the role, and they’re seeing both men and women for the part. So far, HBO has yet to confirm who will take over from Ralph Fiennes. The popular fan choice is Cillian Murphy, who recently denied being the new Voldemort.

HBO’s Harry Potter series is expected to premiere in 2027.
