Samsung’s ultra-wide version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, dubbed the “Wide Fold,” has received a new certification that not only confirms its existence but also reveals new battery charging speeds, along with a fresh specification leak for the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide Gets New Certification
Spotted by SammyGuru, the foldable phone has received its China Compulsory Certificate (CCC), a safety certification required to sell products in China. In the listing, the Wide Fold isn’t named explicitly, but it carries the same model name as the device listed on the GSM IMEI database, SM-F917, which is separate from the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 (SM-F976). Read about how Samsung’s naming convention confirms the Wide Fold’s existence here.

The listing doesn’t offer any information about the phone’s release date, but Samsung typically releases its foldable phones in the summer. Database certification usually means that the hardware has been finalized and, in this case, the certification listing confirms new Galaxy Z Fold 8 charging speeds.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 To Get Faster Charging And New Design
The certification also reveals faster charging speeds for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which now supports 45W wired super-fast charging. That’s an improvement over the 25W speed on last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7.
That upgrade may be supported by a larger battery, too. A new specification leak published by Android Headlines and tipster OnLeaks shows that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be marginally thicker than its predecessor.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 measures 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5mm when unfolded, and 158.4 x 72.8 x 9mm folded. Compared to the Fold 7’s 4.2mm thickness when unfolded, that could indicate a fuller frame for a larger battery, which would be supported by the new faster charging speeds.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 dramatically slimmed down its profile in comparison to the Fold 6 using the company’s new compact motherboard design that it deployed in the ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge. That meant it could use the same 4400mAh battery that powered the Fold 6 in the Fold 7, despite being 1.4mm slimmer.

Is the supposed 0.3mm extra thickness in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 enough space to cram a larger battery into the body? It’s possible, but it is also worth pointing out that Android Headlines also says these are approximate dimensions and some variance in either direction is possible.
The dramatic drop in size for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 does give Samsung some room to work with if it wants to add a larger battery in exchange for a thicker phone. It will likely still be slimmer than rivals such as the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, but don’t be surprised if it’s nearly identical (design-wise) to the Fold 7 and the real innovation is saved for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.
