How will The Boys universe handle Homelander’s final season?

In an interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley for The Boys season 5, Valorie Currey, who joined the Prime Video drama in season 4 as Firecracker, was asked if her character, who is seemingly a pawn in Homelander’s game, has made peace with the idea of being relegated to him in that sense, or if she thinks she wants to go off on her own, as things keep developing. “I’m not sure I agree with either of those,” Curry began, as she stated, “I don’t think anybody’s Homelander’s pawn, he cannot play chess.”

“If anybody is moving the ponds, it’s Sage, and maybe Homelander’s one of them, who knows? But I think he thinks he’s playing chess all the time, but he’s not playing chess. He is all instinct, all reaction,” she continued. For Curry, “I think Firecracker’s only really realized by the end of season four that she would be a pawn, that she would be a tool that this proximity to power is not actually power. And in fact, it’s the most dangerous place that she can be.”

The Boys season 5 cast member concluded by sharing how “that fear that she’s learned of Homelander also is coexisting with the love and the devotion that is very genuine for her. So I think that’s actually what she’s going to have to reckon with is, do you make peace with it? Do you not? What would she even want other than that?”

Could Homelander’s Weakness Help The Boys Defeat Him By The End Of Season 5?

While Homelander is one of the most powerful characters in the entire The Boys timeline, the series has always made a big point that his own ego is both his own strength and weakness at the same time. From Curry’s tease alone, it wouldn’t be shocking that as Homelander’s drive gets further, those whom he thought he could rely on as allies will, in the end, not stand by his side.

Even someone loyal to him, like Firecracker, could always turn on him in the eleventh hour. Homelander’s arrogance could easily be one of the major reasons why he, in the end, falls. Exactly how The Boys season 5 will tackle his defeat remains to be seen, as the show has already taken some liberties in handling certain plots from the comics very differently.

One of the key details that the cast and creative team have been sharing about The Boys season 5 is that no one is safe, meaning that the stakes are higher than ever. By the time they reach The Boys ending, it will actually be fascinating to see how many are actually still standing and which players have been killed off. Given how many details are still being kept under wraps about the final season, the anticipation is at its highest.

The Boys season 5 will kick off the final season with the first three episodes on April 8, followed by individual releases on a weekly basis until May 20, on Prime Video.
