Despite the expected long wait between seasons, Pluribus season 2’s filming window gets a positive update from Karolina Wydra.
Wydra plays Zosia, one of the billions infected by the alien virus in Pluribus, and the member of the hive mind who most frequently interacts with Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn). Season 1 received widespread critical acclaim, became the most-watched show in Apple TV history, and it ended on a major cliffhanger with Carol bringing home a literal atomic bomb. Anticipation is high to see the successful show return, but creator and showrunner Vince Gilligan has been transparent that the series will not return annually.
In an interview with ScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender at PaleyFest, Wydra shared that season 2’s filming is expected to begin during the fall later this year. She also discussed the close bond she has with Seehorn, Samba Schutte, Carlos-Manuel Vesga, and how eager she is to be reunited with her co-stars and sharing scenes with them again. Check out Wydra’s comments below:
No. I wish I did. I really do. I can’t wait. So, Rhea couldn’t meet us because she was working. Samba [Schutte], [Carlos-Manuel] Vesga and me, we met up for coffee yesterday and we have such a beautiful connection, the four of us, and we genuinely love each other and care about each other and we’re rooting for each other. So, I cannot wait for us to be in one city, because Vesga lives in Colombia, so we don’t get to see him that often. So I cannot wait for us to be together every day. So, I don’t know when we’re going back, but I cannot wait. I’m counting the days. Sometime in the fall. [Laughs]
Along with Gilligan previously saying that the series won’t be coming back annually, he has also teased Pluribus’ release tradition of coming back around the same time every year. Since season 1 debuted in November 2025, this means that season 2 could potentially return in November 2027, especially after Wydra’s update that filming is beginning this year.
The stellar reviews for Pluribus and the record-breaking viewership firmly cement it as one of the biggest shows in recent years. However, a two-year hiatus between seasons taps into the increasingly common discourse about the frustratingly long hiatuses between popular series, particularly as shows such as HBO Max’s The Pitt and Hulu’s Pluribus return on an annual basis.
As for what the story of Pluribus season 2 will entail when it debuts, Carol and Manousos Oviedo (Carlos-Manuel Vesga) need to decide what their next move is, along with their ultimate plan against the hive mind, which may include the atom bomb in their possession. Manousos learned some valuable information about the vulnerabilities of the infected in the season 1 finale, which he can now build upon. Carol has a new reason to fight back after learning that, without her prior knowledge or consent, Zosia and the hive mind have her frozen eggs and are trying to harvest her stem cells so she can become one of them.
Another key member of the Pluribus cast that Wydra mentions is Schutte, who plays Koumba Diabaté. Instead of figuring out how to undo the hive mind or joining them, he is indulging in various pleasures, knowing that the infected will do anything to make him happy. He is also the only immune individual other than Manousos who communicates with Carol and is not hostile towards her. With Carol and Manousos disrupting the new status quo and the hive mind working to get the immune to become one of them, Diabaté will have to decide where he stands.
No new cast members have been officially announced, although Bob Odenkirk addressed a potential cameo, with his Better Call Saul co-star Seehorn leading the series, their other former co-star Patrick Fabian having a voice cameo, and Breaking Bad creator Gilligan helming the show. If Pluribus season 2 follows in the footsteps of season 1, though, it will once again have a small cast, with the story primarily focused on Carol, Zosia, and Manousos.
