An engagement is an exciting time for anyone, but Taylor Swift’s recent news might be shifting the dynamics of her inner circle.
On Sept. 24, Swift’s longtime pal, Ed Sheeran, sat down with Andy Cohen for an interview ahead of his SiriusXM’s Small Stage Series concert in New York City — and that’s where the friendship tea was spilled. The 34-year-old singer shared that he didn’t get a sneak peek of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, which is curious since they’ve been musical pals for years.

But then Cohen got to the real eye-opening revelation. He asked Sheeran when he found out about Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce, and he learned about the major milestone just like the rest of us. “Instagram,” he replied.

“You didn’t even get a DM in advance?” Cohen questioned him with a look of surprise.
“No,” Sheeran replied while also mentioning that he hadn’t received a save-the-date notice either.
Fans are also jumping into the situation with their thoughts on X. Did I miss a chapter? Why are we suddenly so glad that Taylor isn’t as close with Ed Sheeran?” wrote one confused Swiftie. Another fan discussed the Scooter Braun feud to add another layer to the controversy, noting, “This tweet has led me to discover (new) Swifties hate Ed because he used to have a friendship with Scooter Braun. There is nothing more stupid than believing Taylor’s friends IN THE INDUSTRY might not engage with ppl she might not be friends with.”
Swift’s life has changed tremendously over the last two years, with her record-breaking Eras Tour to her relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. In addition to her friendship with Sheeran, fans know that her close bond with Blake Lively has also taken a hit after Swift got dragged into her former besties’ legal case with Justin Baldoni over the film, It Ends With Us.
“Taylor really wishes Blake hadn’t dragged her into this whole situation,” a source told Page Six in February. “[Taylor and Blake] have been friends for years, and Taylor cherishes genuine friendships, but she can’t help but feel used at this point.”
Like any adult, some friendships are meant for a season, not a lifetime. As Swift’s life has turned toward a more personal focus, she might be keeping her inner circle tighter these days.
