Warning! This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4.Bullseye has once again stolen the show in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4, having made a move that will doubtless have huge consequences for the rest of the series, and potentially the wider MCU. In the wake of Daredevil freeing the prisoners from Red Hook, Benjamin Poindexter has decided to finally make his move against Fisk.
After a stellar fight sequence between Bullseye and several AVTF agents in the diner at the top of the episode, Matt Murdock learns about Poindexter’s plans to take revenge on Vanessa, while Mayor Fisk tries to protect his wife by sending her away once again. However, Vanessa’s stubborn resistance leads to her being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and Bullseye manages to land a life-threatening blow that has rocked Wilson’s world.
Bullseye’s Gets Revenge On The Fisk’s At The Big Fight
Benjamin Poindexter aka Bullseye in Daredevil Born Again season 2
Despite Matt discovering the clues left in the diner by Poindexter and managing to meet with the man responsible for killing Foggy in the apartment he is renting under an assumed name, Matt was not able to dissuade Poindexter from making his big move against the Fisk’s. Poindexter arrived at the Mayor’s exhibition match, ready for a fight, and while dispatching several more AVTF agents, he got one.
Both Fisk and Daredevil tried to stop Bullseye from doing any permanent damage, but his expert throwing skills paid off in a big way when a large shard of glass, ironically from a tacky bit of merch of Wilson Fisk’s own head among the New York City skyline, was lodged deep into Vanessa’s neck.
As it stands, there is no confirmation that Vanessa is dead, though the injury is undoubtedly serious. Fisk will likely have the very best doctors to care for his wife, but there is a distinct possibility that Mrs. Fisk is in her final moments. And if that’s the case, then New York and the World should be afraid of the savagery that Fisk may unleash.
Daredevil’s Army Is Still Taking Shape
Meanwhile, Daredevil continues to try to establish alliances with other vigilantes and rivals of Fisk and his tyrannical agenda. Having freed the prisoners of Red Hook, Daredevil is finally gathering some useful support for his cause. And while Jacques Duquesne, aka the Swordsman, has said that he needs to leave, he has offered Daredevil access to his considerable funds, which Fisk ironically fought for but never secured.
In addition, Angela del Toro has taken on a mission of her own, and Karen and Matt have a few new friends to lean on in their efforts to change the status quo in New York. However, we have yet to see Krysten Ritter return as Jessica Jones. Until then, it feels as though Matt’s forces are a little lacking as they prepare to take on the entire AVTF.
The Northern Star Case Against Mayor Wilson Fisk Has A New Silver Bullet… Briefly
Buck looking down into a trunk in Daredevil Born Again season 2
While the efforts of Daredevil to rally some troops to fight against Fisk and his goons may be moving slowly, Matt Murdock’s efforts to take the Kingpin down in the courtroom just got a major home-field advantage. Christoph, the first mate of the Northern Star, has come to give his support, and Karen immediately gets Kirsten McDuffie to take his statement.
They manage to record a damning confession that could potentially be enough to get Fisk out of office, but they need to protect the witness until all of this can be presented in a court of law. Unfortunately, it seems as though Buck is again a few steps ahead, as he manages to intercept Christoph’s transport by the local sheriff, murder those escorting him, and capture the only surviving witness of the Northern Star incident.
It’s undeniably a smart move from Fisk and his men, but considering there is now a recording, it could be too late.
Vanessa’s Secret Meeting With The Governor Reveals Her True Alignment
Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk in Daredevil Born Again
While Fisk wanted to protect his wife from Bullseye and the increasing violence across New York City, Vanessa shows her true colors when she holds a secret meeting with the governor behind her husband’s back. The pair discusses how Vanessa has the ability to do everything without her husband, and the governor confirms that she supports the “Mayor and Mrs. Fisk.”
Evidently, Vanessa is pulling strings and even keeping her husband under control. This season has seen Wilson act more reserved ever since he was reunited with his wife at the end of season 1. This could be a large part of the reason he has managed to secure major deals with government agents like Mr. Charles, but as we saw in this same episode, Fisk is already beginning to unravel.
Mayor Fisk Is Already Starting To Lose Control, And If Vanessa Dies, Nothing Will Stop Him
Kingpin punching a man in a boxing fight in Daredevil_ Born Again season 2
As Mayor Fisk and Buck visit Red Hook to assess the damage done by Daredevil, they run into Mr. Charles, who tries to push and control Mayor Fisk as he did in earlier episodes of this season. When tensions rise, Mr. Charles brings out his bodyguards and believes he is in control, but Buck quickly dispatches them, and it’s clear that Fisk has cut the strings of their deal for his own benefit.
Mr. Charles confirms the malicious intent of the Northern Star ship to transport guns abroad to the highest bidder, but Fisk has moved on. Later in the episode, when Fisk steps into the boxing ring for a charitable exhibition match, he unleashes his full rage and brutally batters his opponent before Vanessa’s appearance ringside catches him off guard.
Despite taking a hit in his confusion, Fisk recovers and continues to destroy his opponent to the point that people in the audience, like BB, are scared. But when Bullseye arrives and finally delivers his act of revenge against Vanessa, Fisk’s remarkable reflexes aren’t enough to save her.
As much as we have seen Fisk take the gloves off to fight figuratively, Vanessa’s fate will determine just how intense he will be in the final episodes of this season. Fisk has lost control, and his wife, who was able to calm his anger and frustration and point it where she needed it, is not able to speak up thanks to Bullseye taking her voice away.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4, was one of the most action-packed and tense episodes of the season so far, and will absolutely have an effect that could stretch far beyond this show and the streets of New York.
