WARNING: This article includes MAJOR spoilers from Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe just got a lot more dangerous.
In an interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, Vincent D’Onofrio, who has been playing Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, since 2015 with the original Netflix-Marvel drama, discussed the ramifications of the massive event in episode 4, which saw the Mayor’s wife brutally attacked, and strongly hinted at having died.
When asked about what he could tease for future episodes, the MCU veteran commented that “It’s going to add in a major way to his rage. And the more they do and the resistance to topple my regime, I think the more he wants to get rid of all of them, every one of them.”
The Kingpin star elaborated how “I think what’s happened with Vanessa has rocked him in a way where he’s different than he’s ever been before. He’s not thinking completely clear.” D’Onofrio also teased how this will play a factor in Daredevil: Born Again season 3, concluding his response with, “And just so you know, the effects, that doesn’t end at the end of this season. The repercussions of her death and what it’s done to him begins the third season.”
Crowley also spoke with showrunner Dario Scardapane and executive producer Sana Amanat about the fallout from episode 4 of Daredevil: Born Again season 2. While D’Onofrio laid out Vanessa’s fate as “the repercussions of her death,” the creative team had a very different response to her fate. When referring to the death of Ayelet Zurer’s long-time character, who also debuted in Netflix’s Daredevil show, Amanat began by responding, “Or is it?”

In response to her potentially being pretty critically injured and how Mayor Fisk’s ruthlessness is changing the way his regime will operate going forward, Scardapane teased that, “Yeah. There’s no checks and balances now. What humanized this lonely, scary man, at least in one way isn’t there anymore. So all bets are off. I mean, the gloves are off.” Amanat followed up by saying that she “was nervous reading it. When it happened, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, who is this person going to become?’ I think everyone will be surprised about where we take this. That’s all I can say.”
Scardapane added, “I think people expect it to be rage,” while Amanat said, “Yeah, and crazy. But yeah, there’s a different approach. I think Vincent brought something very special to this. That’s all I want to say. I think everyone should experience it because it’s just-.” Without giving away too much, Scardapane concluded his response by saying, “Episode five is something… something new under the sun.”
The MCU timeline is already working on Daredevil: Born Again season 3, with filming currently underway, as the show will be back in 2027. Set photos have also revealed that Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Danny Rand will be back for the new season, marking a proper Defenders reunion in the franchise since the 8-episode TV series on Netflix.
