Primal creator Genndy Tartakovsky is taking his case to the people. Much like the folks behind Coyote vs. Acme and The Tiny Chef Show, Tartakovsky is taking his passion project to social media in hopes of getting a groundswell movement going. “Well, this might get me in trouble,” he wrote. “But gotta try a new strategy.” Tartakovsky shared approximately 1 minute of test animation for The Black Knight. He said he and his team started working on this movie six years ago. “We developed it for a few years, the studio liked what we were doing but they were unsure if there is an audience that would go see it theatrically,” he wrote. Fans theorize that “the studio” in question is Sony Pictures Animation, because of Tartakovsky’s work with them on the Hotel Transylvania franchise.
The test footage shows a big ol’ boy fighting a much smaller ninja warrior. It’s that perfecty-timed action thing that Tartakovsky does best. “I won’t share the details of the story except for one element, our Knight Armor is 20 feet high and controlled by a knight inside using ropes, pulleys, and levers,” he wrote. “The setting is around the 14th century.” So it’s kind of a ye olde mecha? Fun. Tartakovsky’s post is gathering steam, with celebs like Bobby Moynihan and Jack Quaid expressing their support in the comments.
