EXCLUSIVE: David Lyons (The Beast in Me) and Tobias Menzies (F1 The Movie) are set to star alongside Jennifer Connelly and Ana de Armas in Safe Houses, Apple TV‘s new eight-episode thriller series from Gideon Raff.

Inspired by the espionage novel by Dan Fesperman, Safe Houses is set in the aftermath of the killing of a high-ranking CIA officer in Madrid. The show follows Sofia Jiménez (De Armas), a fugitive agent accused of the crime, and Ambassador Elizabeth Winters (Connelly), his widow, as they each investigate the murder from opposite sides, unraveling a vast conspiracy that could upend the balance of global power.

Lyons plays Kevin Garvey, a special ops CIA agent, with Menzies as Elizabeth’s husband, Clarke Winters.

Safe Houses is a co-production between wiip and Apple Studios. Raff is serving as showrunner and executive producer and will direct several episodes. Otto Bathurst is set to direct the opening block of the series and also serves as executive producer, along with Alexandra Milchan, and Paul Lee and David Flynn for wiip. Adam Berkowitz, Mike Seid, Dan Dietz, and Namsi Khan serve as co-executive producers.

Most recently, Lyons has been seen starring in two Netflix series: Howard Gordon’s The Beast in Me, opposite Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys, and Season 3 of Shawn Ryan’s The Night Agent. He just wrapped a recurring role in Amblin/Netflix’s limited series All the Sinners Bleed and is repped by Gersh, Anonymous Content and United Management.

A frequent hire for Apple, best known for roles in the series Outlander, The Crown, and Manhunt, Menzies is coming off a role in Apple’s Oscar-nominated F1 The Movie alongside Brad Pitt. Upcoming, he’ll be seen in Ruben Östlund’s A24 pic The Entertainment System Is Down, Searchlight’s Sweetsick opposite Cate Blanchett and Spike Fearn, Will Sharpe’s rom-com series Prodigies for Apple TV, and the thriller Maya for Channel 4. He is repped by Conway Van Gelder Grant in the U.K., WME in the U.S., and Cognition.
