NEW YORK (WABC) — Starting Friday, New York State will begin mailing its first-ever inflation refund checks to 8.2 million households.

To be eligible, you must have filed form IT-201 for the 2023 tax year, have income that falls within the qualifying range and have not been claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return.

Joint filers with income up to $150,000 will receive a $400 check.

Joint filers with income over $150,000 but no greater than $300,000 will receive a $300 check.

Single filers making up to $75,000 will get $200 and single filers making $75,000 to $150,00 will get a $150 check.

There are no age restrictions.

Filers do not have to do anything to receive an inflation refund check.

Checks will be mailed across the state starting Friday and will continue throughout October and November.

Governor Kathy Hochul enacted the initiative as part of the ongoing commitment to put money back into the pockets of New Yorkers.

“I’ll never stop fighting to help your family address the rising cost of living – and that’s why I also delivered on my promise to cut taxes for the middle class, expand the child tax credit and ensure free school meals for every student,” Hochul said.
